Hometown: Cleveland
How many years have you practiced yoga: 22
Favorite yoga pose: Ardha Chandrasana and Trikonasana
Words to live by: Don't look down.
Why did you start practicing yoga: I started practicing to heal plantar fasciitis after years of teaching high-impact fitness classes and running. I was able to heal my injuries and still maintain a strong level of fitness with less impact on my body.
Mantra or daily affirmation: I have a couple: "Listen with the intention to understand." And, "Everything is recoverable."
Favorite book: Charlotte's Web by E.B. White :-)
What informs your practice: Breathe and Drishti
Your advice for beginner yogis: The highest hurdle for someone just getting started, is just that...getting started. Just make it happen and keep the commitment. Accept that you are a beginner and take it slow. Take your time in your sessions, and forget about the images you may have about the perfect yoga pose. Focus on developing your own physical and mental wellness - breathe by breathe.
3 words to describe you: Resilient, patient, and a little messy.
The pose that challenges you the most: Parivrtta Utkatasana - Twisted Chair
The best advice you've ever received: It relates to my words to live by -- Don't look down. One day, my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Palmer commented on how she noticed all the children looking down at the sidewalk when she watched us walking to school and around the hallways. I remember her saying how she didn't understand it. "Look ahead, look forward, see people in front of you. There is so much in front of you." I still interpret that today. See opportunities, see people, see your world. Just see.
What's your teaching style: Aligned, fun, athletic, physical, yet adaptable to all levels.
What do you do for fun: Hang with my pup, Cora at home and at my favorite spot, Squire Vallevue Farms. We love the Cleveland Metro Parks too.
Music-wise, I listen to Springsteen, always! Yet, I pepper in some Mississippi and Chicago Blues. Lately, I've been listening to John Fogerty, CCR and Bob Seger. I love having dinner with friends and starting the night with a Tito's martini up with an olive and a twist.
What are you most grateful for: My health.
What brings you peace: A warm breeze and 75 degrees.
Where is your happy place: These days, home sweet home with my pup.
Who/what inspires you the most: People who bring thought and respect to conversations and actions.
